With improved institutional capacity, HIMAWANTI-Nepal will be able to play a crucial role in promoting the rights of women in natural resource management through advocacy and become a special leading organization for uplifting living standards, economy, and prosperity of women.

 

Vision Statement

Empowered HIMAWANTI: Sustainable Natural Resource Management and Rural Women’s Prosperity

 

Primary Goal

To contribute towards improving the rural women’s livelihood through establishing and strengthening the women’s rights to natural resources, self-empowerment, capacity building and economic empowerment of the rural women by strengthening institutional capacity, infrastructure, technical and financial capabilities of the organization.

 

Broad Objectives

 1. Organizational expansions and strengthening its district chapters

  • To expand district chapters of HIMAWANTI-Nepal as per its statute and operate them accordingly
  • To help register the group members in district concerned agency
  • To amend statute and strategic plan of the organization and implement them accordingly
  • To build own well-furnished building within the next five years

 

 2. Continued Natural Resource Management

Community Forest:

  • To support livelihood related activities and sustainable forest management by improving technical and governance system of community forest users’ group
  • To advocate on natural resource related issues at the district, regional, national and international level by joining hands with likeminded organizations and conduct campaigns for sustainable natural resource management
  • To take initiatives for equitable and inclusive share and participatory involvement of women in natural resource allocation
  • To promote good governance, sustainable forest management, forest based enterprise development within the community forest

 

Leasehold Forestry:

  • To improve livelihood conditions of poor women by promoting forest based enterprise, enforcing good governance and technical skills in the leasehold forestry

 

Buffer zones and Protected Area:

  • To increase women’s meaningful participation and leadership in Buffer Zone (BZs) and Protected Areas (PAs)
  • To continue advocacy for ensuring the rights of women in BZs and Pas and assist the women of these areas to increase their earning through forest management

 

Land:

  • To continue advocacy and pressure for ensuring women’s property rights and secure women names in land registration certificate along with men
  • To assist improving livelihood conditions of rural women by building their leadership in agriculture and forest sectors

 

Water:

  • To prioritize in increasing equitable access for women in drinking water, irrigation and electricity
  • To advocate for increasing women’s access to water resource and its management and claim equitable employment and bonus generated from these sectors

 

Climate Change:

  • To increase women, access to the resources on mitigation and adaptation of climate change
  • To strengthen the community role on climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • To conduct awareness campaigns on climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • To take initiatives for women friendly policy while amending climate change policy

 

3. Human Resource Development

  • To enhance technical, social mobilizing skills and leadership capacity of member groups affiliated with HIMAWANTI-Nepal
  • To enhance skills and capacity building of women campaigners
  • To prepare Human Resource (HR) profile of women affiliated with HIMAWANTI-Nepal

 

4. Relationship Building with Other Organizations

  • To develop relation with national and international organizations working in the field of natural resource management and conduct campaigns in favor of rural women
  • To join hands with the likeminded organizations and press the government to make women friendly policy while drafting natural resource management policy and laws
  • To lobby for ensuring women rights in natural resource policy and law; continue to advocate for its implementation; and press the government collecting people’s inputs
  • To avoid duplication of work through better coordination

 

5. Women and Child Rights

  • To support rural women for their health, safe maternal health, and education
  • To conduct awareness campaigns against child exploitation
  • To create social awareness against human trafficking
  • To act to develop women and child friendly environment

 

6. Gender Equity and Social Inclusion

  • To expedite gender equity and social inclusion awareness
  • To formulate gender-friendly budget and program
  • To monitor state of gender-friendly environment and prepare report on it

 

7. Natural Disaster Management and Preparation

  • To create public awareness
  • To advocate in providing support from state to natural disaster effected rural women
